Barnardo's Volunteering

Volunteer With Us

The Hampshire Healthy Families 0-19 service is looking for enthusiastic and creative people to support us in our work. Our Volunteers are highly valued members of our team supporting us and health visitors in the delivery of services and workshops to families, providing better outcomes for more children.

Do you have:

  • A wish to volunteer with children and adults;
  • Good listening skills with a caring approach;
  • Patience and friendliness?

Are You:

  • An open-minded ‘people person’ who is positive and encouraging;
  • Flexible in your approach with others;
  • Willing to be supervised by service staff and health visitors;
  • Able to keep a record of your hours and travel around your local area;
  • Happy to provide satisfactory references and for Barnardo’s to complete a DBS check before you start your role?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to all the above, then you are just the person we are looking for! We believe that volunteering plays an essential role in our work to transform the lives of vulnerable children and young people across the UK.

Our Volunteer role is required during the daytime on weekdays, and available across eight areas within Hampshire, including Basingstoke, East Hampshire, Eastleigh and Romsey, Fareham and Gosport, Hart and Rushmoor, Havant, The New Forest, Winchester and Andover.

Volunteering for Hampshire Healthy Families

Welcome to Hampshire Healthy Families. Our service is a partnership between the Southern Health Foundation Trust and Barnardo’s.

Our team of Community Health Development Workers deliver free-to-attend workshops, courses and events across Hampshire, providing key health information for families with young children, based on the latest UK health guidance.

We are always on the lookout for Family Support Group Helpers to assist the team in the successful delivery of our services; and this can be achieved in several ways, based on your skills and preferences.For instance, you could be a peer befriender, supporting parents and carers to access local services, or you could meet and greet parents in a Child Health Clinic.

If you like to keep active, you could help to lead weekly social walks with one of our Ready Steady Mums groups.

Or, you could support the delivery of our courses and workshops to parents, including Five to Thrive, School Readiness, Family Food, Fun & Fitness, Baby Talk, and Toddler Talk.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

We believe that volunteering plays an essential role in our work to transform the lives of children and families across the UK.

As a Volunteer, you bring with you your own experience and general knowledge of your local community. In return, you can develop your skills and gain new experiences too.

Not only could you make a difference to families and children in your area, you can boost your overall confidence and people-skills. It’s also a great way to make new friends.

During your first few weeks, our Volunteer Coordinator will arrange your induction training in Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, and Professional Boundaries, as well provide you access to additional online training and development. You will receive regular supervision and support from the Hampshire Healthy Families team, who are always happy to help you on your volunteering journey!
