Back to School Primary Leaflet

After being away from school for several months, many children are feeling understandably anxious about returning. They are likely to be returning to new routines, maybe a new teacher or different friendship groups. However your child feels about going back to school, this booklet is designed to give children hints, tips and activities to try so that they can move back into school life feeling confident and calm. These fun activities are focused around the key areas of

·       Routine

·       Relationships

·       Feelings

·       Managing Change

They will be most accessible for children aged between 7 – 11 years and can be used at home, school or other settings.

Primary School Health and Wellbeing

As a parent, you might feel a bit overwhelmed with so much to think about as your child develops and moves from pre-school to Primary School. Likewise, as a child, this can be equally as overwhelming too, with a new environment, a change in routine and sometimes friendships they have made. This is where they may need a bit of extra support and reassurance to help boost their self-esteem and confidence.

Health for Kids offers a fun, engaging, and interactive way for children to learn about health. Find fun games and learn lots more.

There is an area for adults – This will offer you health and advice to help your child grow and flourish. This information focuses on healthy minds, healthy bodies, health issues, and how to find help and support.

Should you or your child need urgent health advice please contact your GP or call NHS 111. In an emergency please visit A&E or call 999.

During Covid-19 your child might be homeschooled. No one expects you to act as a teacher, or provide the activities and feedback that school would. You can speak to your child’s school, which will be planning work for your child to do.

Alongside the support from your school try using these online educational resources.

Getting your child to talk openly about what's bothering them can be hard. Hampshire county council has a list of services available to support your child if they would like someone to talk to.
