Think. Could it be RSV?

What is RSV?
Respiratory Syncytual Virus (RSV ) Infection is most common cause of bronchiolitis in under 2’s.
It is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms.

In England, due to the COVID pandemic, many young children have not been exposed to RSV or Bronchiolitis.
This year Public Health England expect an increase of 20-50% of cases/ admissions abd this is already starting to show in peadiatric wards.

It is a very common illness in young children and 1 in 3 children will develop bronchiolitis in first year of life.

Symptoms of bronchiolitis begin as a cold, then symptoms may include a fever, dry/persistent cough, difficulty feeding, rapid/noisy breathing.

Breathlessness is most common symptom

Health & Wellbeing

Health for Under 5’s offers a wide range of support and information for parents including sleep, nutrition, behaviour, play and much more.

Health for under 5s was developed by professionals working for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT), with support from Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council and Rutland County Council.

The website is primarily a health information and promotion website, covering important milestones in a child’s development from pregnancy through baby, toddler and preschool, as well as offering support, information and advice specifically for parents and carers.

Users can also find out about accessing support from local services. This website is not about managing serious illnesses for which more specialist websites already exist, but we’ve signposted to them where they are applicable.

ChatHealth 0-5

ChatHealth 0-5 is a text messaging service set up to support parents, carers and families of under 5’s in Hampshire.

The service is run by local health visitors who have a wealth of experience of working with mums and dads-to-be, babies, toddlers and young children.

The Health Visiting Team are able to support with questions from parents, carers and families relating to a wide range of health and wellbeing issues including crying babies, infant feeding, starting baby on solid foods, sleep and behaviour problems. As well as giving advice, the team can signpost to appropriate services and other support.

How to use it: Text the dedicated number  07520 615720

The messages are then delivered to a secure website and a health visitor will be able to provide a response to the text.
