Eastleigh and Romsey

You will find us working with the Health Visiting Teams in Eastleigh and Romsey. The area covers Eastleigh North and South, Chandlers Ford and Romsey.

We work in conjunction with the local Health Visiting Teams based at Tatchbury Mount, Eastleigh Health Centre, and Moorgreen Hospital.

Hampshire Healthy Families comprises a Community Health Development Worker and enthusiastic volunteers, offering a range of activities and access to key health information. We support 'Ready Steady Mums' social walking groups; health roadshows that inform parents and early years settings of key health topics (often found at local groups, events and child health clinics); an amazing delivery of Five to Thrive workshops for new parents; and we co-deliver the fantastic HENRY workshop, free for parents on a termly basis in partnership with the Family Support Service. Keep an eye on our website for the latest developments and activities.

Ready Steady Mums

Most of us want to be fit and active and feel healthy.

The Ready Steady Mums groups are fun and informal social walking groups for parents and carers with young families.

**UPDATE** Ready Steady Mums groups currently run by Barnardo's in Hampshire are temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 situation.

Barnardo's have compiled some online resources to aid people to stay fit during the Coronavirus crisis.

We know that being active helps us embrace motherhood, be healthy and balanced, and set a great example to our kids.  There are a number of groups across Hampshire with more setting up every month.  These groups are supported by Southern Health visiting team and Barnardo’s through the Hampshire healthy families programme  These groups meet weekly at the same time and venue this supports families with routine and structure.  The groups are free and a great way to meet other parents.

There are opportunities for volunteering and being the group leader.

Five to Thrive

Recent research proves that how a parent behaves around their baby in the first three years of life has a direct impact on how their baby's brain develops. The Five to Thrive approach focusses on the importance of five key activities as the ‘building blocks for a healthy brain’.

Respond · Cuddle · Relax · Play · Talk.

Hampshire Healthy Families have adopted the five to thrive approach and will incorporate this into our four-week long Five to Thrive Digital Workshop for new parents and their babies, aged between six weeks to six months old.

Due to the ever changing circumstances regarding COVID-19, this free workshop will be delivered using digital technology. The sessions will be live and interactive.

The Five to Thrive message supports the development of secure attachment and emotional resilience. Over the four weeks we look at each individual building block and include some fun activities for you and your baby.

All our workshops are available to book via Eventbrite, where you can see a list of our current Five to Thrive Digital Workshops in Hampshire.

Please contact Hampshire Healthy Families if you have any queries.

Peer Befriending

We can offer Peer Befriending to help support families who are new to the area, feel isolated, or find it daunting to access services or events within their local community.

For example, meeting up and attending a toddler group or clinic together, enabling the family to take part in community groups and events with support.

If you think Peer Befriending would benefit you, please email hhf@barnardos.org.uk and we will get in contact.
